CUNY City College (CCNY): A Guide to Studying in New York

Hello! This is Maegami, the author of the blog Goddess’ Bangs. Today, I would like to introduce The City College of New York (CCNY), a school where I had the privilege to study and graduate.

It’s truly a wonderful university!

Saving Money on Tuition at CUNY City College

One of the biggest advantages of studying in the City University of New York (CUNY) system is the opportunity to reduce tuition costs. In the U.S., many students first complete their liberal arts courses at a community college, then transfer to a four-year university such as CCNY. This system allows international students to save a significant amount of money while still earning a bachelor’s degree.

I personally took this path. During Apple’s rapid growth period, I felt strongly that I wanted to develop my technical skills with a Mac. Instead of completing an associate degree in liberal arts, I decided to pursue Multimedia Programming and Design directly at City College and successfully earned my degree.

Work, Savings, and OPT Experience

Studying in New York requires financial preparation. After completing community college, I used my OPT (Optional Practical Training) year to work part-time in the U.S. Not only did this give me valuable work experience, but it also allowed me to save money for continuing my studies at CCNY.

Music Program and Campus Life at City College

CCNY has a beautiful music building as well as dedicated spaces for architecture and the arts. For example, the Shepard Hall houses historic hallways and specialized libraries, including a collection of rare music scores and music history books. There is also a scholarship office to support students financially.

The Value of Studying at City College
