Let’s Check Out the New York Japan Fes!

Hello! This is Maegami from the blog “Megami no Maegami.” Today, I’m sharing my experience at the New York Japan Fes I recently attended. This event is held every month in various locations around New York. The theme of the Japan Fes I went to was “Festival of Flour-Based Foods,” and there were many stalls featuring takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and other popular street foods.

What is the New York Japan Fes?

ジャパンフェス 夜店

The Japan Fes held in New York is a festival where you can enjoy a wide range of Japanese traditions and pop culture. Every year, it attracts both New Yorkers and tourists, with booths featuring Japanese food, crafts, anime, cosplay, live music, and more, allowing people to experience Japanese culture. The theme of the festival is “Cultural Bridge,” bringing together people from different backgrounds to enjoy Japan’s diverse appeal.

Food Stalls

One of the biggest attractions of the Japan Fes is the food stalls offering Japanese cuisine. You can enjoy ramen, takoyaki, yakisoba, and sweets, bringing authentic Japanese flavors to New York. Often, popular sushi and ramen restaurants in New York also set up stalls, leading to long lines. It’s a great opportunity to compare the unique tastes of each shop while walking around. This year’s theme food was flour-based dishes!

Live Performances

You can enjoy performances such as traditional taiko drumming and shamisen, as well as live shows of J-POP and anime songs, which are symbols of pop culture. Local artists and special guests from Japan perform, adding to the festive atmosphere. Don’t miss the popular cosplay show either.

Japanese Craft Market

The craft market, where handmade crafts, art, and accessories are sold, is also a popular section. You can find items that combine traditional Japanese techniques with modern designs, offering a unique souvenir experience.

Event Information and Access

The Japan Fes is held from spring to fall at multiple locations in New York City. It mostly takes place in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and the schedule and locations are regularly updated on the official website and social media. On particularly sunny days, a lot of people attend, so it’s recommended to arrive early.

How to Get There:

The event is easily accessible by public transportation. You can take the subway or a bus to reach the venue. Parking is available near the venue, but since it can get crowded, public transportation is more convenient. I visited the Upper West Side venue, and it was packed with Japan fans!

Summary

The New York Japan Fes is a wonderful event where you can not only learn more about Japanese culture but also have fun. This celebration, blending tradition with modern elements, allows you to fully experience the charm of Japan. Everyone is friendly, and you may even make new connections. I highly recommend visiting with friends or family. Wow, it really made me realize just how popular Japanese culture is!
